YOUNGSTOWN - A boil alert affecting multiple municipalities in the Mahoning Valley has officially been lifted.

The alert had been in effect in Youngstown, Boardman and Liberty Township since the evening of Sunday, February 1, following a major water main break on Hubbard Road near Logan Avenue and Albert Street. The water break has since been repaired.

On Tuesday afternoon, crews with the Youngstown Water Department collected all tests necessary and submitted them to a laboratory for results.

As of Wednesday afternoon, it was reported that all 64 of those tests came back negative for contaminants, meaning the water in all three communities is safe for residents to drink.

For the next few days, customers may experience cloudy water in their faucets, which clears from the bottom of a glass to the top. The cloudiness is caused by extra air in the distribution system. The water is safe to drink.

Performing a five-minute full house flush of all cold water faucets, tubs and showers at the same time with aerator screens off may help clear the cloudiness.
