ELKRUN TWP., Ohio - A Pittsburgh man is scheduled to appear in a Lisbon courtroom Friday to answer a felony charge accusing him of leading state troopers on a high-speed pursuit in Columbiana County that reached speeds of 135 mph or more.

Brian Pike, 43, of Pittsburgh, faces one count of third-degree felony failure to comply with a police officer's order or signal. The new charge was filed in Columbiana County Municipal Court following a week-long investigation into the January incident.

The pursuit began around 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23 when a state trooper noticed a black Chrysler 300 driving without a working license plate light in Lisbon. When the trooper attempted to stop the car on State Route 11, the car sped away.

According to a court affidavit, the chase lasted approximately 11 miles. During the pursuit, the Chrysler passed several vehicles while traveling at estimated speeds between 135 and 140 mph. Investigators said the car reached a top speed of 148 mph before the driver lost control and crashed.

After the crash, the driver allegedly ran from the car and climbed a nearby embankment. Troopers eventually took Pike into custody and took him to a local hospital for injuries sustained during the wreck.

In addition to the new felony charge, Pike faces several traffic-related misdemeanors. They include driving with a suspended license, reckless operation, and using illegal license plates. Court records also show Pike was charged with failing to maintain reasonable control of his vehicle and operating a car without insurance.

The court issued a warrant for Pike on Thursday in connection with the felony case. He was already scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning for an arraignment on the initial traffic citations.
