Charges filed after alleged beating of three-month-old puppy in Warren
WARREN - Charges have been filed in connection with the alleged abuse of a three-month-old puppy in Warren.
Healthy Hearts & Paws Project President and CEO Jason Cooke says he was called to Adelaide Avenue in Warren for the report of a puppy allegedly being beaten at a home there.
Cooke says when he got to the home, he found the three-month-old puppy with significant injuries to one of its eyes and one of its legs. The injuries required immediate hospitalization at a local veterinarian's office.
The puppy, named Decoy, was confirmed by veterinarians to have broken blood vessels around the eye, a possible hairline fracture in one of his ribs and a fracture in the shoulder growth plate that will need a splint for three weeks.
According to Cooke, the injuries happened after the puppy was thrown against a door for having an accident in the house.
Two charges have been filed against Robert Mealy, 36, in Warren Municipal Court, including a first-degree misdemeanor and a second-degree misdemeanor of prohibitions concerning companion animals act of cruelty.
Court docket information names Mealy in this incident; however, no court date has been set.
Decoy has since been released from the hospital. The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project shelter is now in search of a medical foster for the time being while he recovers.
