Boardman Swim & Dive Team raises money for breast care center

BOARDMAN - The Boardman High School's Swim & Dive Team helped raise money for a local breast cancer center this week.
The special swim meet between Boardman, Poland and Green high schools was themed 'Put a Cap on Cancer', which was designed and organized by Boardman's Swim & Dive senior athletes.
"We stress with our athletes that leadership isn't tied to grade level. By the time they are seniors, we empower them to design the community activity our team will take part in. This year, they chose something we've never done before," said Boardman Swim & Dive Head Coach Carlo Cordon.
Fans were asked to wear pink to the meet, and athletes wore pink swim caps in support of the cause.
In total, $2,000 was accumulated from donations made at the meet as well as individual donations raised by Boardman's Swim & Dive Team athletes.
The funds will benefit the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, which provides prevention, early detection, diagnosis and support services for patients and their families.
