Temporary speed reductions are now in place across interstates in Mercer and Venango counties due to icy conditions.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said in a statement that they are urging drivers to avoid unnecessary travel. Anyone who does hit the road will be met with speed limits reduced to 45 mph on:
- Interstate 79 from Exit 113 (Route 208, Grove City) in Mercer County to the Crawford County line.
- Interstate 80 from the Ohio state line to Exit 42 (Route 38, Emlenton) in Venango County
PennDOT also reminds commercial drivers that commercial vehicles must move to the right lane on roadways with speed restrictions.
According to the department, crews are already treating roads and working to keep them passable but warned the roads will not be completely free of snow or ice.
Drivers can view conditions on over 40,000 miles of Pennsylvania roads and color-coded winter conditions on 511PA.
