Youngstown Police to receive over $40k in traffic safety funds

Youngstown Police Department is set to receive thousands in funding to support traffic safety.
$39,354.50 in federal grants has been awarded to the department by the The Ohio Department of Public Safety and the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO). The National Highway Traffic Safety Association funds the annual grant in an effort to support traffic safety programs.
The OTSO selects, and offers the funding to, the Ohio projects that look to have the greatest impact on reducing serious accidents and improving traffic safety.
“The Youngstown Police Department is committed to working with our partners at the state level to address traffic safety issues by utilizing statistics on crash data, speed, impaired driving and seat belt use,” Youngstown Police Chief Sharon Cole said.
The Youngstown Police Department will also receive $5,000 from Enbridge Gas in order to support the Youngstown School Zone Traffic Safety Program which utilizes school-zone traffic cameras to enforce speed limits; those caught speeding within the 21 photo-enforced school zones are issued a fine.
