YOUNGSTOWN Mahoning County Clerk of Courts Michael Ciccone no longer has unrestricted access to the Mahoning County Courthouse amid an ongoing investigation, according to Mahoning County Commissioner Geno DiFabio.

DiFabio said the sheriff’s office and a judge suspended Ciccone’s access to private courthouse entrances around the New Year.

Ciccone must now enter the building through public security checkpoints, like other visitors, DiFabio says.

The public spotlight on Ciccone came following allegations of racist messages, infidelity and other personal conduct in 2025.

In October, the Mahoning County Republican Party called for Ciccone’s resignation, citing what it described as a “lengthy pattern of behavior that has eroded public trust.”

Following the allegations and calls for his resignation, Ciccone released a statement saying:

"Over the past several weeks, personal matters have unfortunately entered the public sphere.
While these challenges have been difficult for me and my family, I want to assure the residents
of Mahoning County that the operations of the Clerk of Courts Office continue uninterrupted and
remain my top priority."

In January, the Ohio Clerk of Courts Association also called on Ciccone to resign.

DiFabio said Ciccone’s restricted access to the courthouse will remain in place indefinitely, with any restoration of full access left to the discretion of courthouse security officials.
