A stunningly cold stretch is about to come to an end.

The Valley is poised for one more night of low temperatures below 0°, but a warm-up that we haven’t seen in almost a month is about to arrive.

An area of high pressure is directly over our heads – and its combination of calming winds, clear skies, and Arctic origins will tank temperatures close to -10° tonight. While not record-breaking, this could be our coldest air of the season. Locally, some areas could be even 15 degrees below zero.

Some high clouds will filter in during the day on Monday, though all else will be uneventful. High temperatures will be in the mid-20s.

Clouds and temperatures will increase overnight. As a warm front approaches our area, we could expect a mix of light snow and sleet, especially north of town. Any accumulations or impact would be minimal.

As the warm front lifts across our area on Tuesday, temperatures will be at their highest since January 14. This will also be the first day with temperatures above average since January 21.

This relief will be short-lived, however, as a cold front will soon pass through our area. Lake Erie is still unfrozen, which will set the stage for some low-end lake effect chances between Tuesday evening and early Thursday morning.

The chance for snow will be mainly localized to our north, though some flurries could drop across most of our area, especially on Wednesday, where highs will be right around freezing.

Temperatures will drop slightly on Thursday, with highs in the upper 20s, slightly below average. While mostly cloudy, there will be no chance for precipitation.

We could see a few more breaks of sunshine on Friday, with the same minimal chance for any rain or snow. High temperatures will be in the upper 20s.

Love will be in the air on Valentine’s Day this Saturday, and so will be a mixture of sun and clouds. It will be the third straight day with no chance for rain or snow, and high temperatures will tick up a couple of degrees into the low to mid 30s.

Our team is tracking the threat of a low-pressure system moving across the eastern half of the country by the end of the weekend. Timing and specifics are not available at this point, though the chance for rain or snow is very much on the table. Any rain or snow would likely happen during the day on Sunday.

By mid-February, confidence is growing for temperatures to stay mild, a welcoming departure from the unseasonably low temperatures we have seen at this point.
