Quieter, milder weather ahead
The Valley has just experienced cold it hasn’t seen in a long time.
The low temperature at the Youngstown-Warren Regional airport Monday morning dipped to 13 below zero. While this isn’t a daily record, this is the lowest temperature the airport has recorded since February 2015.
Things have turned significantly milder. Highs on Monday climbed to around 30. After a slight dip early, clouds and temperatures will increase overnight as a warm front approaches our area.

As the front lifts across our area on Tuesday, temperatures will be at their highest since at least mid-January. This will also be the first day with temperatures above average since January 21.
This relief will be short-lived, however, as a cold front will soon pass through our area. We could get a few rain showers late in the day Tuesday, though the greater threat for precipitation will come overnight, Lake Erie remains unfrozen, setting the stage for some low-end lake effect chances between Wednesday morning and early Thursday morning.

The chance for snow will be mainly localized to our north, though some flurries could drop across most of our area, especially on Wednesday, where highs will be right around freezing. Winds will pick up during the day on Wednesday.
Temperatures will drop slightly on Thursday, with highs in the upper 20s, slightly below average. While mostly cloudy, there will be no chance for precipitation later in the day.
Clouds will ease on Friday, with the same minimal chance for any rain or snow. High temperatures will be close to 30.
Love will be in the air on Valentine’s Day this Saturday, and so will be a mixture of sun and clouds. It will be the third straight day with no chance for rain or snow, and high temperatures will tick up a couple of degrees into the low to mid 30s, close to where we should be climatologically.
Our team is tracking the threat of a low-pressure system moving across the eastern half of the country by the end of the weekend. Timing and specifics are not available at this point, though the chance for rain or snow is very much on the table. Any rain or snow would likely happen during the day on Sunday.
After this system passes, conditions look to dry out yet again. Temperatures will also be mild, a welcome sight for those who are fond of warmer weather.
