The Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY) is set to receive over $14 million in federal grants to support access to early care and education services, according to an announcement from Governor Mike DeWine.

The U.S Department of Health and Human Services along with the Administration for Children and Families awarded Ohio the Preschool Development Grant - Birth to Five.

The $250 million federal grant aims to help states improve early childhood care and education through curriculum development, business resources and more. Ohio will receive a total of $14.7 million from that grant fund.

"This grant allows Ohio to build on the work already happening in communities across the state," DCY Director Kara Wente said. "By improving coordination and planning, we can make it easier for families to find the services they need and ensure young children get a strong start."

According to a Monday press release, the grant will also help improve technology for educators, help build a “research and impact hub.”

"Early learning helps set children up for success in school and in life," DeWine said. "This funding will help Ohio better support families and make sure young children have access to quality care and learning opportunities during their most important years."
