Boardman trustees urge voters to renew levy, fund road maintenance

BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio - Boardman Township trustees said in a Monday trustee meeting that they are hoping voters will renew a sales tax levy that would fund road maintenance throughout Mahoning County and the township.
County Engineer Pat Ginnetti presented trustees with a break-down of where exactly the money from the levy is going, and how it helps with general road upkeep and paving.
"HE HAD GRAPHS SHOWING WHAT ROADS WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE PAVED WITHOUT THIS SALES TAX AND THEN WHAT HE WAS ABLE TO PAVE WITH IT. iT'S NIGHT AND DAY, SO WE'RE HUGE SUPPORTERS OF IT, AND HOPE VOTERS WILL RENEW IT," boardman trustee Steve Yacovone told 21 News.
Since it is a renewal of funds, the levy would not be new money coming from taxpayers, Yacovone stressed. The current levy, as it is, comes from a quarter percent of sales tax.
