City of Sharon awarded $135,000 for traffic safety improvements

SHARON - The City of Sharon was awarded a $135,000 grant for traffic improvements at various intersections.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) awarded the city $135,000 from its Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) program to update pavement markings at five signalized and two unsignalized intersections along State Street.
Additionally, the grant will fund the replacement of an outdated warning device with an overhead flashing warning device at the intersection of East Connelly Boulevard and Smith Avenue.
Pennsylvania Senator Michelle Brooks is quoted in a press release saying these improvements will reduce crashes, improve visibility and make intersections safer for both drivers and pedestrians.
This grant is part of $27 million from the ARLE program distributed for 51 projects in 44 municipalities throughout the commonwealth.
"The ARLE program helps municipalities improve traffic flow and safety at intersections, not only for drivers, but for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users," said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll.
