Trumbull County sex crime fugitive captured in West Virginia

A man found guilty of gross sexual imposition in connection with a 2009 Trumbull County case was captured on Monday night in West Virginia, according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Dennis Russell Nagle, 59, was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force in Wheeling, West Virginia, on February 9.
Nagle has been on the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force's (NOVFTF) most wanted fugitives list since 2010, a total of 16 years ago as of 2026.
After being found guilty of gross sexual imposition in Trumbull County regarding a case involving a victim under the age of 13, Nagle was sentenced to 14 months in prison and was required to register as a sex offender following his release.
However, in October of 2010, Nagle failed to provide authorities with notice of his address and was charged in Richland County with failure to provide change of address and escape.
After the NOVFTF received information that Nagle could have been hiding in Wheeling, West Virginia, members of the task force immediately responded.
Upon making contact, authorities say Nagle attempted hide his identity by giving a fake name but eventually confessed he was in fact Nagle.
Until Nagle can be sent back to Richland County to face charges against him, he will remain in police custody.
"This is an incredible example of the enduring partnership between the Sheriff's Office and the task force. This fugitive thought he could run forever but law enforcement will never give up looking for those that victimize the community's most vulnerable, our children," said Sheriff Steve Sheldon of the Richland County Sheriff's Office.
Additionally, U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott noted that this case is the third case closed in the last two weeks that involves a fugitive who has been on the run for more than eight years.
