House deemed 'total loss' after fire in Girard
Multiple departments were responding to what was described as a "fully involved" house fire in Girard late Wednesday morning.
Firefighters from McDonald, Cortland, Hubbard, Weathersfield, Liberty Township and Girard Fire Departments responded to the scene at the corner of West 2nd Street and Jones Court as of 10:45 a.m.
Photos taken by a 21 News crew member on the scene showed a large amount of black smoke flowing from the home and damage to one of the exterior walls.
As of 11:19 a.m., severe damage to the home could be viewed, as pictured above.
The house has been deemed a total loss by officials, but it is reported that all inhabitants made it out of the home. It is unknown if any pets were inside the home.
Furthermore, it's unclear if the Red Cross has been contacted to assist those who were living there.
A dispatcher with the Trumbull County 911 Center told 21 News that responders on scene had requested a squad be sent to respond to someone who was injured on the scene.
Liberty Township Fire Chief Doug Theobald told 21 News that a female firefighter with one of the departments sustained a minor injury to her knee, presumably related to the response to the fire, but she was not taken to the hospital.
Chief Theobald also discussed an issue with the water supply while responders were battling the blaze. He says that due to the amount necessary and the linked hydrants in the area, crews had to have water pumped from the U.S. Route 422 area.
Officials believe that the fire started in the rear of the home, but the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and remains under investigation.
