If you don't have a car, how do you get around?
Sure, there's Uber and other apps that can help but they can be too expensive for most people.
Trumbull county does not have the public transit system that WRTA provides for much of Mahoning county.

"Let's figure it out. Try to figure out what we can do and what we need," said transportation advocate and Trumbull resident, Carl Clemens.

Trumbull county commissioners are gathering public input on public transportation options for the county.
The county's transit administrator held an open meeting about it at the veteran's commission building Wednesday afternoon.

"There's a way to have fixed routes. You either decide you're gong to do it or you're not going to do it," said Janet Hazlette.

Right now, there is no public transit for people under 60 years of age. No scheduled buses other than a few routes offered through the WRTA.
Currently, there is only funding for a service to transport seniors, veterans and the disabled around the county.

One option they are considering is to form a regional transit authority.

"The RTA can go to the other counties. We can go into Mahoning County or go into Ashtabula. Whereas county transit systems are kind of limited," said Mike Salamone, Trum. Co. Transit Admin.

County transit is dependent on a county budget whereas a sales tax and grants could fund an RTA.

"There's several services that are available that can garner federal and state monies and be less of a burden on the county as far as cost and we can pick up those passengers that are not being serviced," said County Commissioner, Rick Hernandez.

If commissioners choose an RTA, it could take up to 2 years for it to be set up and be operational.
No word yet on when that decision could take place.
