The Fowler General Store and Bakery has been serving the residents of Cortland since 2022 with their selection of sweets, meats and knick-knacks.

The historic building itself has long been a staple in the community, but it was just 24 hours shy of losing one of it's occupants, until a new owner stepped in.

"They're a local person, they are very community minded and that was big, that had to be that, we just didn't want to turn it over to somebody who wasn't gonna be that. it feels like a real good fit," Shawn Curry, store owner said.

The new owner has not yet been revealed, but Curry said a celebration at the store at 11a.m. Saturday will give the community an opportunity to meet them and enjoy a hot meal for free.

"I've got about seven or eight different pieces of meat on the smoker now, all being prepared for tomorrow, we're just going to welcome people to come in," Curry said.

Although leadership will be different, customers will still see some of the same friendly faces when stopping by, including Curry himself, his son Titus and ocassionally, his wife Heather.

"I'm excited to stay on, they've asked us all to stay on, now we're not all going to be able to stay on but I definitely am going to be there for them for the next foreseeable future," Curry said.

Curry said he is very excited and looking forward to the future but also to a little more home time with his family. After tomorrow, the store will close for two weeks in preparation to reopen again.
