St. Vincent de Paul sells out first-of-its-kind event
95 years and still going strong, St. Vincent De Paul in Trumbull County continues to meet the need for folks facing food insecurity in the valley.
"Our food kitchen and dining hall provides 300-400 meals daily and at one time we only did about 125," said Lou Lepro of St. Vincent de Paul.
It's evidence that the need has grown over time, but it's also changed. The nonprofit also helps out with other basic needs.
"Clothing, we've gotten to help people with rent and utilities as well so we've come a long way from where we were before," added Lepro.
Leaders say it would be impossible without the help of the community as well as sponsors and like minded organizations, the latter trifecta making the first ever Night of Hope Gala a sell out event."These events allow us to keep the lights on, to pay salaries. Those dollars that are not earmarked for specific programs and that's important for any nonprofit," said Darlene Jones, CEO of St. Vincent de Paul/Northeast Ohio.
A silent auction and golden ticket raffle helped to raise funds too. Michelle Perdue and her husband own several McDonalds and for years have helped the organization's mission to serve those in need.
"We're finding out that people are trying to decide do I eat or do I get my medication," said Perdue, a member of the advisory board.
Organizers say they hope to reach their goal of $75,000
