A 52-year-old man is scheduled to appear in a Trumbull County courtroom on Tuesday morning to learn his sentence for a November stabbing at a Niles shopping center.

Kenyon Kellum, of Warren, will appear before Judge Sarah Thomas Kovoor at 9 a.m. The hearing follows a jury trial earlier this month, where Kellum was found guilty of two counts of felonious assault.

The jury found Kellum not guilty of a more serious charge of attempted murder.

The charges involve an incident on Nov. 5 at the Gentry Center shopping plaza on Route 422. Witnesses told investigators that a group of people was arguing in the parking lot before the situation turned violent. During the fight, a man was stabbed in the neck.

Officers arrested Kellum shortly after the incident at a nearby hotel. He has been held in the Trumbull County Jail since his conviction.

Court records show that Kellum’s attorney filed a notice during the case claiming Kellum acted in self-defense. However, the jury moved forward with the guilty verdicts on the assault charges on Feb. 6.

A second person, Zulekha Berry, was also charged in connection with the case. Her case was moved to a grand jury to determine if she will also face trial.
