Thiel College adds nutrition major to health science programs

GREENVILLE, Pa. - Thiel College officials announced Monday the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in nutrition to meet growing interest in health and wellness careers.
The college’s board of trustees approved the undergraduate program during a meeting on Saturday. Students can begin enrolling in the major for the fall 2026 semester. Trustees also approved a Master of Science in nutrition and dietetics, which is expected to open in 2027 pending accreditation.
The new major offers students a choice between a traditional four-year track or an accelerated three-year pathway. The curriculum focuses on human biology, food science, and applied nutrition.
Sheila Nowinski, vice president for academic affairs, said the program is designed to meet current workforce needs. She noted that the coursework will combine scientific study with hands-on learning and internships.
Students in the program will study how nutrition affects the body across different stages of life. They will also cover topics such as food safety, metabolism, and how diet can help prevent certain diseases.
College officials said the program aims to prepare graduates for jobs in hospitals, community clinics, and corporate wellness offices. The degree also serves as a foundation for students planning to attend medical school or pursue advanced studies in public health.
