Police chase through Youngstown leads officers to I-680

YOUNGSTOWN - A police chase through Youngstown led officers all the way to I-680 Wednesday evening.
According to a police report, the chase started just before 5 p.m. when officers saw a Ford pickup truck run a stop sign at the intersection of Ravenwood Avenue and Hillman Street and attempted to pull it over.
Instead of stopping, police say the truck drove through the parking lot of a business and then continued from Market Street to Hilton Avenue.
Police say the driver yelled, "I don't have any brakes," out the window, despite applying the brakes multiple times during the chase, including a point where the driver stopped at Erie Avenue to let a female passenger out of the vehicle.
Police say the chase continued down several streets with the driver ignoring all stop signs and red lights he encountered, and at some points driving in the oncoming traffic lane and through yards.
Eventually, police say the vehicle's tires started to flatten as the driver made his way onto I-680 Southbound towards Boardman before getting off on East Midlothian Boulevard, only to get back onto the highway.
Police say the truck drove towards oncoming traffic for a brief moment before using a turnaround to get on I-680 northbound, where the truck eventually stopped.
From there, police say the driver, identified as 54-year-old James Mrofchak got out of the truck and ran away, jumping the median in the process. Police were soon able to subdue him.
Police searched Mrofchak's vehicle, where officers found an open container of alcohol.
Mrofchak was arrested on charges of failure to comply and obstructing official business. He was also issued traffic citations for running the stop sign, driving under suspension and the open container, according to the report.
Mrofchak was taken to the hospital where he was placed on a police hold.
