The City of Struthers has issued an update for residents who saw an increase in their natural gas bills in February.

On Friday, February 20, the city posted to its Facebook page that it was made aware of "escalated gas charges" from Constellation, the city's supplier.

Some customers told 21 News at the time that they had seen an increase of nearly double from the month prior.

As of Tuesday, the city's newest alert, posted on Facebook and sent to customers with a text message, indicated that Enbridge Gas will be crediting customers' next gas bill with the "difference of the rate."

Residents are asked to pay their natural gas bill as-is.

Struthers Mayor Catherine Miller sent a statement to 21 News on Tuesday afternoon.

In that statement, Mayor Miller says that Struthers customers who opted into the City's aggregation program experienced the unexpected charge when the city negotiated with a new supplier.

The rate was switched to the February market price instead of the originally contracted date, according to Miller.

The previous supplier acknowledged that the change was made one month earlier than anticipated, and they have said that they will honor the contracted rate of $3.84 for all February bills.

Thus, Enbridge Gas Ohio will adjust customer bills in March.

Miller recommends that anyone with further questions or concerns can reach out to Enbridge Gas directly by calling 1-800-362-7557.
