YCSD unveils new logo, slogan for combined district

During a Youngstown City School District (YCSD) board meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the new logo and rebranding for the combined district were unveiled.
"We felt that it was time for an update because it's going to reflect what we're striving for, which is the future of YCSD being a unified district," said Stacy Quiñones, Communications and Public Relations Director for Youngstown City School District.
It was announced in the summer of 2025 that Chaney High School and East High School would be merging at the beginning of the Fall 2026 school year.
Since that announcement, the district has unveiled the combined school's new mascot and nickname, depicted by an owl with the city's skyline behind it.
The name of the new combined campus will be known as Youngstown Unified.
The new logo for YCSD, unveiled during Tuesday's meeting, depicts a large red and blue "Y" beside the Youngstown City School District name, with the tagline "One Vision. One Youngstown."
Quiñones says that the new tagline depicts the forward-looking future of the district. Furthermore, Quiñones tells 21 News that this logo will be put in place at the beginning of the new school year.
Ahead of the merger, Quiñones says that both Chaney and East have been working together to bond the schools in unity through leadership programs, sleepaway camps and shared classrooms at Choffin Career & Technical Center.
Plus, students and staff of the schools have been invited to participate in a contest to help name the school's owl mascot, with over 150 responses already brought to the table.
Superintendent Jeremy Batchelor has also told 21 News that the district has decided on the nickname "Defenders" for its sports teams.
"We're really appreciative of the community, our scholars and our families. We just ask that you continue asking those questions, continue supporting us, because we are here to support you," said Quiñones.
