Warren city council reviewing DORA for renewal

From Market street in Warren, to South street, the city allowed for there to be a designated outdoor refreshment area during special events over the summer.
Now, it's time to renew this annual DORA, but that's not what happened at Wednesday's council meeting.
"It was put in first reading just to give us opportunity to have more conversation," Helen Rucker, councilwoman at large said.
Concerns about safety in the refreshment area were the bulk of the conversation.
"My concern is that South street is kind of a distance so how do you get there, do you walk there or do you get in a car and drive over there and you're drinking," Rucker said.
This prompted council to consider reducing the size of the DORA which currently extends one mile.
Rucker said council put a lot of rules in place last year and Warren police were pleased with the arrangment.
"Last year that was the same area, we had no problems," Rucker said. "The police department is comfortable with it and we look forward to the same thing happening," she said.
Although a few more conversations are needed, Rucker believes the DORA will be renewed.
"I just didn't wanna pass it tonight without having some conversations going forward because I think our entertainment area is going to expand anyway," she said.
This topic will be brought up again before their next council meeting so discussions can take place and they Potentially move forward with it from there.
