The largest labor union for educators in Ohio has officially endorsed Youngstown-native and former director of the Ohio Department of Health for governor of the state.

The Ohio Education Association (OEA), a teachers' union, has announced its endorsement of Dr. Amy Acton and her campaign.

The OEA stated in a news release that the endorsement comes from Acton's dedication to working people and her plan to invest in public schools.

"Public education is not a red or blue issue; it's about making sure Ohio's students can reach their full potential in our state. Amy Acton truly understands public education and labor issues, and she has a clear vision to address the real challenges facing schools in our state. Dr. Acton is the clear choice to lead Ohio forward toward a better future for all of us," OEA President Jeff Wensing stated.

Acton is no stranger to major labor union endorsements as of late, with the Ohio Federation of Teachers, the United Auto Workers, the Communications Workers of America and others recently announcing their backing of the candidate.

"Public schools saved my life. As the wife of a 43-year public school teacher, it is incredibly meaningful to receive the Ohio Education Association's endorsement," Acton stated.

Acton's name will be on the ballot during the gubernatorial election on November 3, 2026.

The OEA represents between 116,000 and 125,000 educators, faculty members and support professionals in Ohio.
