Last Day to vote for Mercer County Food Bank for $10k Grant

The GBU Foundation is a charitable arm of the Pittsburgh-based fraternal benefit society, GBU Life, that awards funds to non-profit organizations each year based on its four Community pillars: Wellness, Education, Charitable Giving, and Hometown Hero Support.
The Mercer County Food Bank falls under the Charitable Giving Pillar.
After a panel of judges selects from a series of eligible nominees, the winner of the grant is decided by a public vote.
The first-place winner receives $10,000, the second-place winner receives $5,000, and the third-place winner receives $2,500.
Development Director Alexis Spence-Locke says the Food Bank can provide two meals for every dollar it receives.
"If we were able to win that $10,000 level, we would be able to provide 20,000 meals to our neighbors in need," she said.
The Mercer County Food Bank reports that it distributed over 3 million pounds of food to residents in 2025.
It also fed an average of 14,000 pounds per month.
Spence-Locke says she is grateful that the Food Bank was nominated as a finalist and hopes it will receive enough votes to receive one of the awards with help from Mercer County residents.
"Something we live by at the Food Bank is 'Many hands make light work,' and this was one of those times that our community rallied together," she said.
Votes are collected on the GBU Foundation website until tonight at 11:59 p.m..
The GBU Foundation will announce the winners in March according to its website.
