CHAMPION TWP., Ohio - It has been nearly one week since 21 News reported that the Champion Local School District filed a federal lawsuit against Microsoft Corporation and the popular online gaming platform Roblox.

The lawsuit claims Roblox uses psychological techniques designed to make its platform intentionally addictive to students, raising concerns about the impact excessive gaming may have on students.

Speaking WFMJ Weekend Today, legal analyst Matt Mangino said the district will likely rely heavily on statistical research to support its claims.

"There's estimates between two and 10% of young people have some sort of addiction to internet gaming," Mangino said.

As for whether the case will ultimately go to trial, Mangino said much will depend on the strength of the evidence and how the gaming companies respond.

"It depends on the soundness  of the evidence and the statistical information that supports it, and ultimately, whether or not, you know, gaming companies want to sort of roll the dice," Mangino said.
