Up-and-down rain chances, steadily mild temperatures ahead
Those heading out the door will need to take some caution as freezing rain is falling across the Valley.
That’s as temperatures have settled just below the freezing mark overnight, though they will rebound quite a bit through the day. After a changeover around sunrise, plain rain will continue through the first half of the day. There could be a brief bit of drier weather around midday, though a bulk of widespread showers is expected to move in late in the day. High temperatures will again increase into the mid-40s, with temperatures in the 50s possible in Columbiana County. Overnight, temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-30s. The bulk of the rain is expected to move further south, though we’ll still be on the hook for some fog. Visibility could drop as low as a quarter of a mile as you are heading out the door on Wednesday.
Highs on Wednesday will improve to the mid-50s – about 10 to 15° above average. High pressure will keep most showers south of Youngstown, although some locales may experience a sprinkle or drizzle during the day.
A regenerating area of low pressure will move towards our area on Thursday, prompting rain’s return to the Valley. Temperatures will go up overnight after bottoming out in the upper 40s, with rain setting in overnight. By Thursday afternoon, rain will become steady, with the chance for some isolated thunder and lightning. That’s as high temperatures will peak close to 60 degrees. Showers and any heavier rain could continue through the evening, but widespread clearing is expected late.
Friday’s high temperature close to 70° will likely be the highest the Valley has experienced since last fall. Skies will become partly cloudy in the afternoon with limited rain chances. We may have a sustained dry stretch overnight into Saturday, with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50s.
By Saturday, the chance for rain will increase yet again. It will be extraordinarily mild, with forecasted high temperatures in the low-to-mid 70s not only 30° above average but also potentially challenging a 43-year-old daily high record- 75° set in 1983. Rain will become likely late in the day, and may include some thunderstorms, as well.
After rain clears at some point overnight, temperatures will take a step back on Sunday, with highs closer to 60°. Stray showers from Saturday night could bleed into the day on Sunday.
Milder air is expected to start the week, with 60s widespread before temperatures may take a tumble around midweek.
