Boardman Township is looking to fill three seats on its zoning board, where members will sit on its Board of Zoning Appeals, Zoning Commission and Architectural Review Board. 

Here are the job descriptions:

  • The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) serves as the 'judicial branch' of zoning administration, hearing and deciding cases of the following appeal types: 1) the decision of the Zoning Inspector when an error is alleged; 2) a Variance from application of a specific requirement of the Boardman Township Zoning Resolution when unique circumstances exist on a property; and 3) the issuance of a Conditional Use Permit for certain sensitive land uses that require demonstration the development will not be detrimental to the neighbors and community. The BZA meetings are held at 6 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.
  • The Zoning Commission is an advisory board to the Board of Township Trustees. It holds public hearings and makes recommendations on amendments to the adopted Zoning Resolution and Zoning Map. The Zoning Commission also works on long-range planning to shape the future growth of Boardman. The Zoning Commission meetings are held at 5:30 pm on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.
  • The Architectural Review Board (ARB) is an advisory board commenting on whether a proposed development meets or exceeds the adopted site development standards. The ARB meets at 1:40 pm on the 2nd Thursday of every month.

Each board member is appointed for a term of five years and receives a small stipend of $20 for each meeting attended. The meetings are held at the Boardman Township Administrative Office, 8299 Market St.
