Ohio bill establishing state defense, space commission headed to Senate

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 292 on Wednesday, which would establish the Ohio Defense and Space Commission.
According to a release, the bill states the commission would consider strategies to promote defense and aerospace industries in the state of Ohio.
If signed into law, the Ohio Defense and Space Commission would be responsible for:
- Administering the Defense and Aerospace Industries Expansion Program
- Recruiting international businesses for defense and aerospace investments
- Promoting technology, research, development and manufacturing
- Considering policies intended to improve quality of life for service members and veterans
- Studying and developing comprehensive strategies to promote defense and aerospace industries in Ohio
"Establishment of the Ohio Defense and Space Commission protects jobs, strengthens our economy and keeps Ohio at the forefront of national defense and advanced manufacturing," said Ohio State Representative Nick Santucci (R-Niles).
House Bill 292 will be given to the Ohio Senate for review and voting. Then, if the Ohio Senate passes the legislation, it will head to Governor Mike DeWine's desk for consideration.
