Youngstown Area Goodwill highlights community at Annual Mission Breakfast

A Youngstown thrift store hosted its 3rd Annual Mission Breakfast on Thursday, celebrating the organization's impact in the Mahoning Valley.
The Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries event brought more than 200 Valley residents together to hear from speakers discussing the importance of community.
One community member, Gary Vandetti, who was recognized at the event, has worked for Goodwill for 42 years.
"Gary's story represents the heart of what we do. When we talk about opportunity, dignity and purpose through work, Gary is a perfect example of how our mission can truly change lives," CEO Dr. Shelley Murray said.
Murray also used her time to speak about the strength that comes from the organization working with other area businesses and leaders.
"Our mission is only possible because of the partnerships we build across the community," she said. "Together, we are creating opportunities that help individuals achieve their goals, while strengthening the workforce and the future of the Mahoning Valley."
For newer initiatives, Shelley highlighted the Assembly for Workforce Solutions and WorkOhio.
The morning also highlighted 50 years of the Youngstown Radio Reading Service, Goodwill's partnership with the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, and Andrea Chapman's story and career. Chapman serves as the assistant manager at Goodwill's Austintown store.
The event took place at the Tippecanoe Country Club.
