A Trumbull County treasure hunt has people from the United States and beyond participating to find treasure now valued at over $30,000.

The Newton Falls Treasure Hunt, organized by Fieldview Acres Mercantile, began in February and is designed to unfold over several months. So far, the competition includes participants from:

  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • West Virginia
  • Arizona
  • Utah
  • Iowa
  • New York
  • Illinois
  • Michigan
  • Kentucky
  • Texas
  • Oregon
  • Washington
  • Italy
  • Japan

"We created this as a way to bring people to Newton Falls and shine a light on the incredible history and small businesses that make this town special," Tom Colosimo, owner of Fieldview Acres Mercantile and organizer of the hunt, stated. "Seeing people come here from across the country and now across the world is something truly incredible."

The hundreds of participants are challenged with clues that require research, historical knowledge and problem-solving compared to a traditional treasure hunt.

"The treasure hunt was designed to highlight the charm, history, and local businesses of Newton Falls, encouraging visitors to explore the town's historic downtown, landmarks, and small businesses while working through a series of challenging clues," Fieldview Acres Mercantile stated in a news release.

Clues are released every two-weeks until all 10 clues are given on the organization's Facebook page.

The treasure hunt will continue until the treasure is found, with the treasure value growing with every new sponsor gained.

The treasure includes cash, coins and other prizes gathered from sponsors.
