The Polish Arts Club of Youngstown held its 86th Annual Scholarship Art, Music and Tea Reception on Sunday at the Butler Institute of American Art, with two recipients being students at Kent State University.

The organization hosted pastors, poets and musicians to celebrate Polish heritage and their shared love for the art world.

"Everybody has their ancestry, and to learn about them is important," Alexandria Copich, a member of the club for 71 years, said.

Sophie Davis and Aubree Lewis of Kent State University were two of this year's scholarship recipients, along with Maja Froelich, who is studying journalism at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków, Poland.

Musicians played renditions of music from Franz Schubert, Johann Sebastian Bach, Fryderyk Chopin and more.

"The most important part of it is keeping people that have like interests together," Copich said.

Over the years, Copich says the organization has given over $100,000 in scholarships. Funds are raised through fundraisers, selling art objects and promoting art in the community.

The club's president, Mary Ann Mlynarski, is the daughter of one of the Polish Arts Club's founders.
