The 2nd International Women's Day Rally took place outside of the Mahoning County Courthouse in Youngstown on Sunday to showcase Valley voices speaking up for women's rights.

The Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters' led event did not just ask for women to attend, but anyone who believes in human rights.

"The Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters, along with several partner organizations, have gathered to stand in solidarity," Executive Director Helana Komsa said. "We are out here to create safe environments for our community to use their voice to speak out against the injustices that are happening locally and across the world."

In a news release, the organization states that anyone who believes in bodily autonomy and equal protection under the law should show up to rallies and events like the Market Street rally held on Sunday.

"I think today is a lot about bringing those people together in a space and giving them the platform to use their voice and use their power that they have as a community to change the way that we'd like the future to go," Komsa said.

March 8th is recognized as International Women's Day and was recognized by the United Nations in 1975.
