Some St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital staff honored for pediatric care

Some members of Mercy Health - St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital's staff have received an award from the Ohio Emergency Medical Services for Children (Ohio EMSC) State Partnership Program.
According to a news release outlining the award, the 2025 Pediatric Clinical Save Awards from the Ohio EMSC State Partnership Program are intended to recognize EMS responders and emergency departments for "clinical excellence" during pediatric emergencies.
Awards were presented at the third annual Ohio EMS for Children Conference on Friday, March 6, 2026, in Columbus.
St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital staff in the location's emergency department are being recognized for providing "exceptional emergency care" to a pediatric patient with burn injuries.

Reese continued," We are deeply honored to receive the 2025 Ohio EMSC Pediatric Clinical Save Award, which is a direct reflection of the preparation, teamwork, clinical excellence and compassion that our physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers and support staff bring to every child and family we serve. Advancing pediatric emergency readiness in our communities is essential to providing safe and effective care to all in need, and Mercy Health is proud to champion this effort."
During this same conference, members of Sugarcreek Fire and Rescue in Sugarcreek were honored for their efforts in responding to a severely injured and unresponsive pediatric patient.
"Emergency medical providers face some of the most challenging moments with unwavering compassion and expertise," said Julie Leonard, MD, MPH, program director for Ohio EMSC and emergency medicine physician at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Furthermore, Leonard continues by saying that it is a privilege to recognize and celebrate the recipients of the award for their "dedication to providing outstanding pediatric emergency care to our communities."
Submissions for the 2026 nomination are open through January 8, 2027. Those who wish to submit a nomination can do so online through the Ohio EMSC State Partnership Program's nomination form.
