The Youngstown City School District (YCSD) has unveiled renderings of a capital improvement project that will impact the current East High School site as the district transitions into the Youngstown High School beginning in the Fall 2026 school year.

According to a news release, the beautification project, approved at the March 10, 2026, Board of Education meeting, impacts the entryway and exterior of the school.

Included in the project is an addition of an enclosed lobby, a new gated entryway, a front plaza redevelopment and opening sightlines from existing office spaces.

The entryway, located off East High School, will include a gated entryway with an officer available to monitor entry and exit from the facility.

According to the release, it will also have the names of former schools on the side of the structure to honor the district's history.

A covered canopy over the gated entryway will stretch to the existing sidewalk along the driveway.

Pictured above is a rendering of the entryway and canopy, containing the "Defenders" logo.

Also attached below is a rendering of the guard station and structural canopy, labeled "The Gatehouse."

Renderings of the front plaza redevelopment and new entryway were also shared with 21 News.

"As we enter One Vision. One Youngstown, this project represents a substantial shift in how the district will approach the experience at Youngstown High School," said YCSD Superintendent Jeremy Batchelor.

Batchelor continues," By enhancing and upgrading the school site, we are building a unified campus community where every scholar has access to educational opportunities and a state-of-the-art facility. We want scholars, families, staff and every community member who walks through the door to feel proud of the environment we're building for the future of Youngstown students."

The project will be managed and carried out by DPH Architecture of Canfield.

Construction is expected to begin in May or June of 2026 and conclude later in the year, around August or September.
