Girard residents to be billed quarterly for trash collection beginning in April

GIRARD - The City of Girard is changing the way residents are billed for their trash collection beginning in April of 2026.
Previously, trash collection in Girard was paid for by a series of property tax levies. At one point, a total of five levies were collected to cover the entirety of the fees for carrying out this service.
However, plans were set in motion in 2023 to allow each levy to expire over time and transition to residents being billed quarterly for their services instead. The first 1.2 mill levy expired in 2024, followed by a large 1.5 mill levy in 2025.
Two more levies are set to expire in 2027, and the last one will expire in 2028.
Beginning with the second quarter of 2026, which spans from April to June, residents will begin being billed $49.77 per quarter, or $16.59 per month, plus a $5.95 administrative fee for trash pickup services from Republic Services.
Residents can add a second cart for $2.76 more.
Residents can also request to be billed once per year through Republic Services.
