AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - People in Austintown are still looking for answers after hearing an explosion Wednesday night. The blast happened around 11:30 p.m. on Carnegie Avenue.

One neighbor told 21 News she heard a loud sound and a bright white light coming from her neighbors porch.

That same neighbor caught the explosion on camera, and the footage also shows what led up to the blast.

The video shows people walking up to the home, putting something on the porch and throwing something that ignited moments before two blasts.

Homeowner Ron Rhoades was two houses away, and ran to his porch as soon as he heard the explosion.

“I went up on the porch, noticed the windows were smashed, the smell of gunpowder,” said Rhoades. “There's a hole in the floor where the explosive exploded. It blew the chairs off the porch. It's quite violent, but smashed out some very old windows.”

The Austintown Fire Department is continuing to investigate with help from police. They are currently gathering video and evidence to send to the State Fire Marshall.

“We know that something was set on the porch, and something was thrown to the porch that ignited. It did not cause very much damage. The explosion was minimal,” said John Ragan, lieutenant and investigator at the Austintown Fire Department.

Ragan said multiple people are involved, and there are leads. However, it's unclear if this is a targeted incident or if the home was chosen at random.

“We have some footage that [has] some of the bystanders on it that possibly were involved, but we don't know if we can pull facial recognition at this point,” said Ragan.

While investigators did NOT confirm what was thrown at the home, Rhoades believes it was a firework and a jar of kerosene.

“I don't know who did it or why it could have been a random prank, somebody just trying to burn empty houses,” said Rhoades.

Ragan said the damage from the explosion was minimal, and nobody was hurt.
