ODJFS: Replacement benefits for those impacted by power outages

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) announced in a news release that replacement benefits could be available for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients who lost power and lost food as a result.
Households that experience a power outage of four hours or more and lose food purchased using SNAP benefits can apply to receive replacement benefits for the amount of food the household lost.
However, the amount cannot exceed the recipient's monthly allotment. Replacement benefits would be added to the Ohio Direction Card of the recipient.
Impacted recipients are encouraged to fill out JFS Form 07222, found here, within 10 days of the loss and submit it to their local County Department of Job and Family Services.
Residents can search for their local office using this website.
Recipients will have to verify the outage before issuing replacement benefits, so it is encouraged that the household provide verification, such as:
- Screenshots of news reports
- Texts or email alerts
- Outage maps that show the recipients' area without power for four hours or more
