Warren man accused of trying to fight hospital police officer with IV pole

WARREN - A Warren man is facing charges after police say he tried to fight a hospital police officer with an IV pole last weekend.
According to a report from Warren PD, the incident happened the morning of Saturday, March 14, at St. Joseph's Hospital. Police say 45-year-old Charles Duke III was fighting with a hospital police officer using an IV pole as a baseball bat.
When police got to the scene, nurses led officers Duke, who police say was barricaded behind a patient bed with two oxygen tanks at his backside.
Police say Duke was still wielding the pole, as well as a metal patient tray to protect the front of his body. Police also say Duke had blood on his jeans, shirt and arms, but officers did not know if that was his own blood or someone else's.
Duke eventually dropped the items after repeated orders to do so, according to the report.
Police say Duke still would not comply with orders to get on his knees and remained close to the pole and tray. Police were soon able to subdue Duke with a taser and take him into custody.
Hospital staff told police that Duke had been seen and cleared by a doctor, but became irate and refused to leave the hospital, leading him to break off a metal IV pole and barricade himself in the hallway.
According to court records, Duke is charged with multiple misdemeanors, including inducing panic, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, March 18, but court records show he did not show up.
Court records show a warrant has been issued for Duke.
