$1.4 million project to replace century-old bridge in Sharon to begin soon

SHARON - A $1.4 million project to replace a century-old bridge in Sharon is scheduled to start at the end of the month.
The project to replace the bridge that carries Route 718 over Pine Run in the City of Sharon is expected to kick off on Monday, March 30, weather permitting.
Work will include the replacement of the bridge's existing structure with a cast-in-place concrete box culvert, as well as paving, updated guide rails and improvements to drainage, sidewalks, curb ramps, signs and roadway paint.
The existing bridge was built over 100 years ago in 1923, and is rated in poor condition. Approximately 7,000 vehicles use the bridge per day on average.
No detours are expected throughout the project, but drivers may encounter some lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers. Drivers should expect minor travel delays during active work hours.
A temporary road will be constructed for traffic while the existing bridge is being replaced.
The project is expected to be finished by October of 2026, and will be paid for entirely with federal funds.
