A trip south of the border may bring a brighter future for a Valley business. The owner of a local company is expecting good things to come from a recent trade mission to Mexico.

From the outside you wouldn't know that REDEX Inc. of Salem is the home of world-famous Utterly Smooth Udder Cream.

"We're running here at about 100 per minute, but we can go as fast as 200 per minute," says CEO and Udder Cream inventor Bill Kennedy.

Kennedy joined more than 50 other export-minded Ohioans on a week-long trade mission to Mexico with Governor Bob Taft.

"The Governor can open doors that we can't open ourselves. We've gone on other ones and we know the value of them."

This latest international mission resulted in getting REDEX and Udder Cream a foothold in the Mexican market.

"We signed an agreement with a mexican company down there to represent us."

Kennedy says the various meetings and receptions during the Mexico trip provided new opportunities for business networking.

"One individual had 600 or 700 pharmacies that he serviced, so we're looking forward at servicing those pharmacies as well. I think that if I had to guess I would say that it's going to be worth another $75 to 100-thousand worth of business to us per year."

REDEX already counts Wal-Mart and Target as two of it's biggest customers, but only about 10% of it's sales are outside the U.S. so there's still a lot of potential for taking Udder Cream to the global market. That's good for REDEX, it's employees and Ohio and quite a leap from where this family-run business started.
