Girl Who Overdosed at New Castle High School Dies
A Lawrence County high school student who overdosed on painkillers at school has died, and a teenager suspected of providing the pills is arrested.
Sixteen-year-old Erica Million was pronounced dead about 1:30 a-m Sunday at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Her father, Gary Mumford, says his daughter got the drugs on Tuesday from another student at New Castle High School. She became sick and unresponsive and was being treated after suffering lung damage and going into cardiac arrest.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office says an autopsy was conducted, but they are awaiting the results of laboratory tests before saying the cause of death. A 16-year-old boy authorities say provided the pills is being held at a juvenile shelter pending a juvenile charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
Lawrence County District Attorney John Bongivengo says if tests show that Million overdosed on oxycodone, he would charge the boy with drug delivery resulting in death, a third-degree murder charge.
