It's the end of an era for a valley medical institution.

The last patient to receive care at Tod Children's Hospital was discharged Monday.

The hospital had been open since 1973.

Now, all pediatric care is being handled by Saint Elizabeth's.  The hospital's pediatric ward is now being operated by Akron Children's Hospital.

Pediatrics chair of HMHP Elena Rossi says, "What parents need to know this unit is staffed 24 hours a day seven days a week by a pediatric hospitalized physician that specializes in inpatient treatment of children."

The ward will move to Saint Elizabeth's new hospital on McClurg Road in Boardman this fall.
