Springfield Township Pot Bust

OSP makes a big discovery on a Springfield Township farm. Police removed about 70 marijuana plants hidden in a corn field on East Garfield Road. Some of the plants were up to six feet tall.
The discovery has a street value of about 70-thousand dollars.
The find was not part of an organized bust. An OSP officer from the aviation unit in Columbus discovered the drugs by accident.
"He was actually in the area for a court case in a prior enforcement effort we were in and he just happened to fly over the field and saw that growing therem," says Ohio State Highway Patrol Officer Chris Heverly.
Springfield Township police say they don't believe the marijuana belongs to the land owner but the investigation isn't over.
Springfield police are turning that investigation over to the drug unit of the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement task force.
