New playground dedicated in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - After months of snow, ice, and then rain, community members finally got together on Friday at the Wick Park Pavilion to officially dedicate a new playground.
Construction of the accessible playground was actually completed last fall.
The goal of the project was to coordinate the design, development and installation of a centrally-located, easily accessible playground, located in Wick Park, utilizing elements of universal design.
According to the Centre for Excellence in Universal Design, “Universal Design is the design and composition of an environment so that it can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability or disability.”
The city-sponsored summer camp program uses both the new playground and other Wick Park facilities.
Youngstown CityScape received funding for the project through the Hine Fund of the Youngstown Foundation
