Kmart has announced that it is closing its Boardman store in mid-April.

A news release from the department store chain says the store at 1209 Boardman Poland Road is being shut down as part of a plan to reduce expenses and make changes to the company business model.

Kmart says that most of the store's 81 employees are part time, hourly workers, and will have an opportunity to apply for open positions at Sears and other Kmart stores.

The store will begin a liquidation sale on January 24.

The release from Kmart says customers with layaway contracts at the store may either pay off the contract early, or transfer their layaway contract to a neighboring store or online.
