The right show could help you achieve your New Year's resolutions

You do not need a fancy gym to get in shape.  Although, a gym can certainly help.  However, what most people do need are shoes.  By having the right pair, people can avoid derailing their New Years resolutions.

"If you shoe isn't the right size or doesn't have the right amount of support, you can get pain in your arch.  A lot of people get pain in their heel commonly called plantar faciatis.  You can lose a toe nail or bruise your toes if it is not sized properly or if you are going too much in the wrong kind of shoe," said Mark Lipinsky with Second Sole in Boardman.

While shoe displays can be visually appealing, looks shouldn't play a huge role in your decisions to purchase.  Lipinsky says after being properly fitted for shoes, it's important to know what activities you'll be doing while you are wearing them.

"A more flexible shoe can be good for taking classes or some light aerobics, maybe even a little jogging or walking.  Something that is a little more sturdy could be just for someone who needs a little bit more support regardless of what kind of activities you are doing," said Lipinsky.

The height of your arch and flexibility of your foot can also influence your selections.  Lipinsky recommends people reserve a pair of shoes just for their athletic activities.  After about six to eight months of wear, he suggests people swap out their shoes for a new pair.

The last thing to consider are the socks you wear inside of your shoes.  Lipinsky recommends people avoid cotton socks.  Instead, look for polyester or nylon blend.
