Boardman Lions hold annual 'Dinner in the Dark'

BOARDMAN, Ohio -

For some folks in Boardman tonight, it was 'Dinner in the Dark.'

Not because the power was out, but for the Boardman Lions Club annual blindfold pasta dinner.

Diners could eat their meal, provided by Carmella's Cafe, with a blindfold to give them a perspective on the challenges that face the blind in the performing everyday activities

Matt Gambrel of the Boardman Lion's Club told 21 News, "It's very strange, you don't know what's on your fork, so once it hits your mouth your not exactly sure the size of the bite, you have to make sure you get it all in there. You don't know if it's on your mouth, so you're wiping your mouth. It's things you don't think about, people without sight, they do this three times a day and they get by just fine."

All the proceeds from the dinner will go to different charitable causes, including a food pantry, coats for kids, eye screenings or road cleanup efforts.
