Youngstown police and the Mahoning County Coroner's Office have identified the man who was shot to death inside of a vehicle early Sunday morning.

The victim is identified as 21-year-old Christopher Jackson, Jr., who police said was the passenger in the car.

According to Youngstown police, another person who was in the car is recovering in the hospital.

At 1:55 a.m., police were called to the 1600 block of Stewart Avenue and Bennington Avenue for reports of gunfire.

They found a car that had traveled off the road and into a field.

Detectives said they found Jackson dead at the scene. 

The male driver of the car, who was also shot, ran to get help at a home on Stewart Avenue.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth where he is in stable condition.

Police said they do not have any suspects in custody, and they are investigating this as a homicide.

They believe there was more than one shooter.

An autopsy will be conducted by the county coroner to determine Jackson's exact cause of death.
