The family of a Niles mom says they are trying to pick up the pieces after a mother of two was shot dead in her vehicle over the weekend.

Thirty-three-year-old Britney Ann Mazanec was shot inside her vehicle in the parking lot of the  Hideaway Lounge bar and grill on Route 422 at around 2:30 am on Sunday. She later died at a hospital.

The suspect, 28-year-old Ryan Daniels, appeared in court via video for an arraignment on one charge of reckless homicide.

Daniels did not enter a plea in the case. His bond has been set at $1,000,000.

Family and friends of Mazanec appeared in court too, clutching photos of the victim, telling 21 News that they were shocked.

"I feel lost without my baby, I miss her," said Tammy Stone, Mazanec's mother. "She was so good, nice; this didn't deserve to happen; no mother should bury their daughter."

According to the family, Mazanec had been at the bar with her sister and co-workers.

Family members tell 21 News that they did not know Daniels, and have no idea what happened.

"She was in her car almost onto 422 when she was shot, so what could she do to somebody when she's driving on the street, she's leaving, she can't be harm to anybody," Stone said.

A friend says Mazanec was a 'great mom' who leaves behind a four-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter.

Police say they are limited in what information they can release since the investigation is still ongoing. Police say they are still in the process of interviewing witnesses in the case.
